The head disappeared instantly, but Brahma's skull, the kapala, stuck to Kaal Bhairav's hand. This severed head was not merely a symbol of punishment; it was a powerful representation of the great sin (Brahmahatya or killing of a Brahmin) that Kaal Bhairav had incurred by striking the creator.

Now, carrying the kapala as a begging bowl, Kaal Bhairav was forced to wander through the three worlds to atone for the sin. This journey was his penance, and for a long time, the sin followed him like a shadow, refusing to leave.

Finally, his long journey brought him to the holy city of Varanasi (Kashi). The moment Kaal Bhairav's feet touched the sacred ground of Kashi, the sin that had clung to him instantly dissolved and vanished.
